Soundair Aviation Services, is an industry leader specializing in the repair and overhaul of commercial aircraft components, parts development, and engineering solutions for our world-wide customer base.

Commercial airlines ship us component parts from their aircraft such as coffee makers, ovens, faucets, oxygen systems, lavatory components, transparencies, and many more items. Our repair team performs maintenance on these parts and our engineering team designs and improves a variety of parts. Uses CAD equipment to provide support to engineers by preparing routine layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches and diagrams for aviation products and services. Details to include all views and dimensions necessary for manufacture. Has a solid understanding of drafting techniques and familiarity with engineering terminology. Possesses mechanical aptitude with ability to complete basic mathematical calculations.   This position may support 4 different engineering facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Uses computer assisted design/drafting (SolidWorks CAD) equipment and software to develop designs.
  • Reverse engineering of various parts using manual and automatic measuring equipment.
  • Create technical documentation packages for submittal to the FAA.
  • Sketches rough layout of machine and computes angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages and location of holes.
  • Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
  • Converts existing production drawings to SolidWorks.
  • Communicates with QA, engineering and manufacturing regarding new and revised prints.
  • Coordinates efforts with applicable departments and personnel as required.


  • Associates Degree or equivalent Certificate as related and/or 2 years practical experience.   
  • Ability to reverse engineering component parts using coordinate measuring machine, digital optical comparator, various calipers, micrometers, pin gages etc.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and products related but not limited to machining, plastic and rubber injection molding, heater manufacturing, and sheet metal fabrication.
  • Extensive work experience with 3D modeling software such as Solidworks, Autocad and/or Alibre Pro.
  • Strong knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Prefer minimum 2 years' experience in aerospace manufacturing, reverse engineering and PMA processes.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Strong PC skills with MS Office Suit (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project).
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to understand regulatory requirements for airworthiness for FAA and various foreign authorities.
  • Ability to understand and apply information from component maintenance manuals, structural repair manuals, aircraft maintenance manuals, Illustrated parts catalogs, service bulletins and other aircraft reference materials.
  • Must be adaptable and flexible at all times to research and apply knowledge and skills to develop creative solutions to a wide variety of unique design, modification and repair problems.


Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience: Associates Degree or equivalent Certificate as related and/or 2 years practical experience.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to add subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fraction, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to apply mathematical concepts related to engineering principals needed to perform the job requirements.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in a typical office environment and also frequently enters the warehouse environment.   The office and warehouse both have a moderate noise level.  In the warehouse the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions.
